About Me

Hello! I'm Albert Jiménez, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain. I obtained my PhD at BSC as a member of the geometry and meshing for simulation group where we did fundamental and applied research. I studied mathematics and I'm passionate about programming!

Work Experience

Postdoctoral researcher at IDAEA - CSIC
May, 2024 - Present
I am part of the Groundwater and Hydrogeochemistry group. We intend to improve the current in-house solver to deal with higher permeability variances.
Postdoctoral researcher at Barcelona Supercomputing Center
July, 2023 - April, 2024
I was part of the dual-use technologies group. I worked on a fluid-structure problem, and I mainly focused on high-order optimization methods.
Ph.D. Student at Barcelona Supercomputing Center
November, 2018 - June, 2023
I was part of the geometry and meshing for simulation group led by Xevi Roca. My thesis was supervised by Xevi Roca and Abel Gargallo-Peiró. We did applied and fundamental research in the field of computational geometry and meshing. Check the research page if you feel curious about our research.
Mathematical support and documentation at Wiris - Maths for more
July, 2017 - August, 2018
As a member of the support team, I helped and trained teachers around the world to develop online quizzes in their learning platforms. Moreover, I wrote the documentation for some of the products of the company.

Education

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at Barcelona Supercomputing Center
November 2018 - February 2023
Geometry and meshing for simulation group. Advisors: Dr. Xevi Roca, and Dr. Abel Gargallo-Peiró. See the research page for more information.
Masters in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
2017 - 2018
I specialized in numerical mathematics, dynamical systems and their application to biology. Master’s thesis on high-order mesh generation supervised by Dr. Abel Gargallo-Peiró and Dr. Xevi Roca. We presented a method to incorporate curvature to linear and high-order meshes when a target geometry is unavailable.
Mathematics from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
2013 - 2017
I studied the Mathematics degree in the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics. Elective courses: Numerical methods for ODEs, Numerical methods for PDEs, Dynamical systems, Computational Biophysics, Control theory, Engineering optimization. Bachelor’s thesis supervised by Dr. Marino Arroyo: theoretical and numerical study of a model describing the shape and motion of a cell. This model includes PDEs and is solved with a code developed by a doctoral student. I understood the model and found some interesting results.
